About Me

Who is Ms. Kelly?
I am a Children's Librarian in southeast Michigan. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and a Masters in Library and Information Science form Wayne State University.  For the past 4 years I have worked at MacDonald Public Library in New Baltimore, MI.

Programming is my favorite part of my job. As a solo children's librarian I do all our children's programs. I average 3 storytimes (baby, toddler and preschool) each week. In addition I typically do at least one school age after school program weekly. I love having fun with the kids and promoting our library! This blog will focus on what I do at these programs. It will also include any library related thoughts and advice I think will be helpful to parents and other children's librarians. For specific storytime related plans and literacy tips, please see my storytime blog.

  1. Hi Kelly,
I am doing a March Break program with kids at our library next week. The ages are 7-12. I am definitely going to try the Chocolate Olympics ideas for our last day! I would like to duct tape crafts with the kids, but I have never done so before! I have several rolls of fun tape from headquarters but I didn't want to get into using exacto knives and rulers! What are some duct tape crafts you have done with your children? What do you use to "cut" the tape??? Thanks a 1000 000!

Any help is greatly appreciated as I am a "NEWBIE".

    Thanks,

    Lois

    1. Hi Lois,
You have perfect timing because we actually just did Duct Tape crafts at my library yesterday! We made bookmarks, bows and picture frames. I had the kids use scissors to cut the tape, which was not a perfect solution but worked okay for most of the kids. It may just depend on the quality of scissors being used. I'll definitely be writing about this program soon so hopefully that comes in handy for you too. Let me know if you have any further questions as well! Good luck on your program :)
